The world of VELTRAIL

A world of rails above the clouds

Floating stations of ceramic, brass and glass hang above a sea of clouds. Couriers on magnetic skates carry energy to them along rails they lay themselves — and where it arrives, bridges switch on and mechanical flowers open.

Illustrations on this page are concept art, except the ones marked as screenshots from the game.

An atlas in progress

This map is concept art. It shows how the biomes planned for version 1.1 could sit side by side. The three arenas of version 1.0 are separate stations and are not placed on it.

  2. Rails

    Concept art

In this concept art the glowing lines between the islands stand for rails. In VELTRAIL 1.0 you lay rails across the arena as you ride: a rail appears behind your courier as you move, and pulses ride it from your team’s generator to the receiver.

Three arenas of version 1.0

Every match of VELTRAIL 1.0 is played on one of three floating stations. Each asks the same question in its own way: where is the short route — and who can cut it?

Coil Garden

Russian name: Сад катушек

An open arena: central receiver, two flank routes and a bridge.

In-game description

The central receiver stands on an island ringed by a pond. A bridge in two spans is the short way in; two routes lead round the flanks. A powered bridge opens for everyone — rivals included.

Levels and ramps: routes cross over each other without connecting.

Raised decks pass over the lanes below. A rail on a deck and a rail underneath never join, and a pulse tool fired from the ground can’t reach a deck. There are no bridges here.

Russian name: Облачная верфь

Two bridges and an always-open safe route.

In-game description

A ring of quays runs along the edge as the safe way round, and two drawbridges are the shortcuts. Beyond the walkways there is only open sky above the clouds.

Three biomes in development

Version 1.1 is in development. Its planned solo expedition, Endless Flow (working title), goes ever deeper into a darkened archipelago, through three biomes. None of them is in the current game, and the panoramas below are concept art.
